As prescription charges increase once again in England, we have launched a series of infographics which highlight the impact of these unfair and harmful charges on people with long-term conditions. Over 13,000 people have signed our online petition calling for an end to these charges. Please do add your support and share at this link - www.bhf.org.uk/prescriptions.

I have 2 long term illnesses which could both be life threatening without medication. Asthma and ulcerative colitis. I have to take medicine daily for the rest of my life just like many other people. The medication works very well when used correctly, but when I cannot afford it my health can really suffer. What really makes me mad is the unfairness of it all. If the fees were at least shared fairly between Engand, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, it would be so much fairer, but it is left to English workers on a basic wage to pay for it all. I know lots of people are exempt, but many on not a great wage are not and do not get any help. We are then made to feel guilty about asking for it to be made fairer. I would vote for the party who made this system fair.

Im not sure how the NHS would find the revenue to support us if exemption was widespread for all long term sufferers. I need to understand the system more to comment on that.

Why are some life term diseases accepted for free prescriptions yet others arent? My partner has mild Thyroid problems but qualifies for free prescriptons, free dental care and free eye care. I have Chrons and Colitis, never out of the hospital, GP surgery or Pharmacy and if I didn't recieve my medication it could well be life threatening. I get no help at all. The system is so random and so unfair. All permanent illnesses should be treated equally and drop the blatant discrination to sufferers of certain illnesses.
